President

Christ Our King-Stella Maris School

I am the product of a Catholic Grammar School and Catholic High School education. I believe strongly in allowing as many students as possible to receive a quality Catholic school education. I have been involved in Catholic organizations including the Knights of Columbus my entire adult life.

When my daughter Erin started at Christ Our King - Stella Maris school I was asked to join one of the school board committees which ultimately led to my serving for several years as the school board chair. In 2012 the pastors of COKSM decided to change the administration model at the school to the President / Principal Model at which time I was asked to be the school president.  The model allows the principal to concentrate on the curriculum and educational aspects of the school while the president oversees these areas, as well as, the business side of the school.  The model has worked very well since its inception and helped the school to continue to provide a quality Catholic education to our students while we simultaneously have added additional programs and improvements to the school and our campus.

Principal

Christ Our King-Stella Maris School

I began my career as a middle school language arts teacher at Our Lady of Mercy School in Potomac, Maryland.  While teaching I obtained my Master’s in Educational Administration.   I became the principal of Our Lady of Victory School in Washington, DC in 1990 where I stayed for fourteen years.  In 2000 I was awarded the National Catholic Education Association’s Distinguished Principal Award.  I left Our Lady of Victory in 2004 to open a new school in Rockville, Maryland.  I was principal at St. Patrick’s until 2013.

Several years ago my husband and I decided it was time to explore places to live in the South.  While scanning through national educational opportunities, I found the advertisement for principal at Christ Our King-Stella Maris School.  I was intrigued with the president/principal model at COKSM and decided to throw my hat in the ring.  As I was still very happy as principal at St. Patrick’s, I put my decision in God’s hand—if this move was meant to be—it would happen.  My first year at COKSM was in 2013.  Neither my husband nor I have looked back.  We love the Charleston area and I love COKSM.  The president/principal model has been a wonderful opportunity to work in an administrative team that fosters not only academic success but positive community.   Christ Our King-Stella Maris is a terrific school.  My goal is to have our school always be one of academic excellence, one with strong Catholic identity and one that is a safe, happy place for our students.

My name is Mary Molony Bunch, and I have been substitute teaching at COK-SM since 1997 and working in the front office since 2003.  I am a Charleston native and grew up in West Ashley, attending Blessed Sacrament and Bishop England along with my 6 brothers and sisters.  I graduated from USC (Go Gamecocks!!) with a degree in English in 1983 and moved with my husband to Oklahoma in 1985 to fulfill his Army commitment after graduating from the Citadel.  We moved back to Mount Pleasant in 1988 and raised our three boys here.  All three boys attended COK-SM, Bishop England, and the oldest graduated from C of C while the younger two graduated from USC.  We chose to move to Mount Pleasant to raise our family, and it was the best decision we ever made!  The education they received and the lifelong friendships they have made are priceless!
