Where Tradition & Innovation Unite

ENRICHMENT AREAS

Diocesan Standards

In addition to the core academic curriculum, students in all grade areas participate in a variety of once-weekly Enrichment subjects.

Art Class is a weekly course in all grade levels where students can really exercise their creativity in every possible medium! Once students reach middle school, they are eligible to take an advance course which meets twice weekly and covers more difficult projects.

In Music, students can really show off their beautiful voices! Students in all grade levels are also eligible to participate in a variety of student choirs that meet after school and perform at mass, school events, and local competitions! Students in the middle school that are part of these choirs also meet twice weekly during the school day.

Our Computers and Technology class gives students a chance to learn how to operate PC's, navigate the web, and create professional-looking papers and presentations. Students in 4K through 4th grade also get a chance to utilize the school iPad cart to play educational games! For our IB students in grades 6 through 8, this class becomes Design where students learn to analyze problems, develop ideas, and create solutions using technology and creativity.

Exercise is important, which is why all students take Physical Education every year at COKSM. Students get to work out, play sports, compete with each other, and burn off some of that extra energy! Some students in the middle school can also meet a second time per week to sweat even more!

Students in 1st through 5th grade take Spanish as an enrichment class before it becomes a daily course in the middle school. Students learn the basics of Spanish using creative activities, fun songs, and educational video clips. By the time they reach middle school, students are fluent in the fundamentals and can jump right into the more advanced material!

Finally, lower school students visit the Library once a week to check out books, listen to stories, watch fun videos, and learn how the library works. The library also hosts the schools' annual Book Fairs.

I am so happy to be an art teacher for my alma mater! I graduated in 2004 and went on to Bishop England High School, where I used my artistic talent to benefit my school community. I graduated from Bishop England in 2008 with senior awards in studio art, creative writing, and student leadership. After graduation, I attended the College of Charleston, majoring in studio art and biology. Through my college career, I achieved numerous honors and awards in both academics and artistic talent. I graduated with a Bachelors of Art in Studio Art and Biology, cum laude, in 2012. I have since obtained my Master's of Art Education from Boston University. In addition to teaching art, I have also worked with the after school program.

I love working with students and watching their enthusiasm when they learn something new and exciting. I am so thankful that I am an art teacher at COK-SM because I can pass on my knowledge and delight in art to my students, all in the Catholic, familiar environment.

Room:Gym

Grades Taught:5 - 8

I am a native New Yorker that attended 12 years of Catholic schools. I graduated from The Citadel with a BS in Physical Education and a minor in Social Studies. Through the years I have taken many courses at several colleges and institutions and have taught and instructed students from ages 5 to over 30 in both the academic and physical areas.

I came to COKSM in January 1987 when a friend asked me if I could substitute for a teacher for the remainder of the school year. At the end of the school year, I was asked if I would return for the next school year. I so enjoyed working with the students, faculty, and the environment at COKSM that I came back to teach and I'm still here.

My philosophy in teaching Middle School Physical Education is for the students to have fun while learning about sports, discipline, hard work, and instilling in them the fact that physical activity is an important life-long skill.

In my spare time I enjoy family activities, going to the gym, and also getting a workout four to five days a week hitting against a tennis ball machine.

I have also worked in the pharmaceutical industry and at many other jobs as our family traveled from duty station to duty station.  It is truly a blessing to be able to teach in a Catholic environment and, more specifically, at Christ Our King Stella Maris school.  I enjoy sharing my faith with the students and seeing them grow in their belief as well.

Library

I've been a librarian since 2010.  I love sharing my faith, and my love of learning and books with your students.

My family and I moved to the Charleston area in 2014.  We lived in Hershey, PA for nineteen years prior to our move here.  I was the librarian at St. Joan of Arc Elementary School for four years.  I worked with students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies with a Library Science concentration from Clarion University, Clarion, PA.  I am currently enrolled in a Master's in Library Science Program at Clarion University. I am a member of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians Board of Directors and a member of the Catholic Library Association.

I've been married to my husband, Matt, for twenty-eight years.  We have six children, three girls and three boys.  I love to spend time with all our kids.  I attend all their sporting events and I also love to run, garden and read.

I believe the library should be the hub of learning and literacy in our school.  I hope to collaborate with both teachers and students in order to enhance the curriculum and support academic development.

It is a privilege to work in a catholic school.  I am happy to have the opportunity to share my faith and my love of books with all the students at COK-SM.
