Welcome to Christ Our King-Stella Maris School! Students in our 4-year-old pre-kindergarten program are treated to one of the most fun, exciting, and educational pre-school programs in the Lowcountry. Students start their education off right with our experienced certified teachers and their talented aides working with small class sizes to maximize student achievement. Kids also experience the full range of COKSM enrichment areas including Art, Music, Library, Computers, and PE.

Pre-K students also get hands-on with technology! Each of our classrooms is equipped with a SMART Board, classes visit the school's computer lab every week, and students can even get their hands on iPads from our mobile lab!

Many of our graduating 8th graders comment that they have attended school at Christ Our King-Stella Maris School for 10 whole years and still think fondly upon that great first experience they received in 4K!

I graduated from the College of Charleston in December 2012 Cum Laude where I majored in Education. I believe that a teacher plays an important role in shaping a child’s attitude toward learning and can make the difference between a child that is successful or unsuccessful in school. Therefore, I motivate students by relating to their individual interests and needs while encouraging independence. I am excited to be teaching 4K with my sidekick and pet turtle, Tilly! We are looking forward to a school year filled with many fun and educational activities. I am proud to be a part of the Christ Our King-Stella Maris School family!

I am a certified teacher who graduated from the College of Charleston with a major in Elementary Education and with a minor in Early Childhood Education. I have taught in the Diocese of Charleston for over 25 years and am fortunate to call COK-SM home for all but two of those years. My sons  attended COK-SM for grades 4-k through 8th. Their years at school here  gave me the opportunity to experience both sides of the school  family and  community as a parent and as an educator.

I believe that it is my task to start my students out on their educational journey on the right foot.To paraphrase the proverb,”every great journey has a great beginning”, I feel that it is my job to give my students a great beginning and to spark their love of lifelong learning.I believe that  every day should be an adventure and that my classroom should be a happy place that is filled with lots of  laughter, noise, and enthusiasm. I want my students to  look forward to school each day and to always  feel safe and loved. I am grateful that Christ Our King- Stella Maris School provides the spiritual environment to help me achieve my goals in teaching children along with the values of Christ.

I am a graduate of Winthrop College with a B.S. in Elementary Education. I attended Christ Our King-Stella Maris School and Bishop England High School and have established deep roots in Catholic Education. I love children and enjoy working with the four year olds here at our school. I strive to educate the young child by providing a happy, positive and safe environment while following the teachings of Jesus Christ. In our program we try to provide the children with as many hands-on experiences as possible to help them develop positive self images. I am proud and happy to be a part of our Christ Our King- Stella Maris School family.

Students in the five-year-old kindergarten at Christ Our King-Stella Maris School get to start acting like the big kids! Students begin wearing the official school uniform and attend classes in the lower school wing of the main building. Students experience a fun, exciting, and hands-on curriculum designed to expand their knowledge and skills in all areas. They also benefit from small class sizes overseen by our experienced certified teachers and their fantastic aides.

Kindergarten students get to participate in a wide range of enrichment areas including Art, Music, Library, PE, and Computers. Classrooms are equipped with the latest educational technology including desktop computers, interactive boards, AppleTV screen streaming, and individual iPads from a mobile lab that the students can utilize for any and all subjects!

Kindergarten students at COKSM really get a head start on their education!

Kindergarten Teacher

I graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. I then attended the College of Charleston and received my Masters of Education Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have taught 4 or 5 year old kindergarten for more 20 years.

I have wanted to be a kindergarten teacher since I was five years old and feel very blessed to be teaching kindergarten at such a wonderful school.

Katie Gorospe

Kindergarten Teacher

I am from Rock Hill, SC where I attended a school in the Diocese, St. Anne School, from K4 - 8th grade. And continued my Catholic education at Charlotte Catholic High School. I graduated from College of Charleston in 2017 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. Being a teacher is something I believe I was born to do. Kindergarten is such an important time in a child's academic career and I am so blessed to be able to show all my students how important and exciting school is.

I was very lucky to know what I always wanted to do from the time I was in third grade. Of course, all my teachers inspired me and made my love for learning continue on through my adult life. When my family moved to Ohio, I had the opportunity to teach in the Catholic School my youngest daughter was attending. It was the most amazing experience and I knew when we moved to the South I wanted to continue on that path. I believe that COK-SM is a wonderful school and I get to do what I love everyday.
