Elementary School Program

Grades 1–5

At Christ Our King – Stella Maris Catholic School, our elementary program provides a nurturing, faith-filled environment where students in Grades 1 through 5 grow academically, spiritually, and socially. Rooted in Catholic tradition and guided by Gospel values, we are committed to forming compassionate, respectful, and responsible young people who understand their call to serve others as Jesus taught.

Each day begins and ends with prayer, offering time for reflection and gratitude. On Wednesday mornings, our entire school gathers for Morning Assembly—a time to pray together, share school news, and celebrate student achievements—followed by our weekly school Mass. These shared experiences help build a strong sense of community and reinforce our Catholic identity.

Our curriculum follows the academic standards of the Catholic Diocese of Charleston and includes:

  • Core subjects: Religion, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Vocabulary

  • Enrichment areas: Spanish, Art, Music, Library, Technology, Guidance and Physical Education

In second grade, students begin sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion through their home parish, supported by classroom instruction and spiritual formation. Also in second grade, students are introduced to cursive writing.

At COKSM, we are committed to teaching the whole child. Instruction is differentiated to meet the unique needs of all learners. Reading groups are leveled using Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) scores, and students needing extra support benefit from our dedicated Reading Intervention team. Additional academic accommodations are available for students diagnosed with learning differences to help them thrive.

Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to explore and share their God-given talents. Opportunities for enrichment include:

  • Visual and Performing Arts (Choir, Musical Theatre, Violin, Dance, Art)

  • Athletics and Physical Fitness (Basketball, Volleyball, Golf, Tennis, Archery)

  • STEM activities

  • Academic competitions such as Math Olympiads, Spelling Bees, and Geography Bees

Our goal is to provide a well-rounded, joyful learning experience where every child feels valued and empowered to succeed—academically, creatively, and spiritually.

We are blessed with the opportunity to walk with our students as they grow in knowledge, faith, and character—and we take that responsibility to heart.
