Facts and Statistics in Excellence
Over the last decade, Christ Our King - Stella Maris School has received the following accolades:
- Accredited by AdvancED, formerly the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
- In 2023, COKSM was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence based on our high scores in reading a math on nationally standardized tests and on our comprehensive and innovative curriculum.
- COKSM School Board was named a Distinguished Board by the National Catholic Education Association.
- Christ Our King-Stella Maris School has been blessed with the best school nurse around. Kate Byrne was named as the #1 Best School Nurse in 2024 by Mount Pleasant Magazine. She takes charge of the health and wellness of all students to ensure that they can learn and grow. Helping students with ailments and illnesses of all kinds, she provides a healing hand!
- 8th grade students qualify to take PSAT/NMSQT if they score at least 92% on the MAP or other standardized test. At least 76% of the graduating Class of 2024 qualified to take PSAT/NMSQT.
- Students who score 550 or higher in Verbal - OR - 530 or higher in Math are named South Carolina Junior Scholars. 26% of the qualifying students in the Class of 2024 were named as SC Scholars.
- The 7th and 8th grade Peer Ambassador Program empowers students to become active representatives of COKSM. These ambassadors serve as positive role models, welcoming new students, assisting with school events and promoting a positive school culture. The program provides opportunities for students to develop valuable life skills and make a difference in our school community.
- For the past 5 years, the COKSM middle school Yearbook Staff has been recognized as a National Program of Excellence.
- COKSM Middle School students participate in the VFW essay contest. Every year we have at least one finalist in the local area and have had several winners at district level. Last year we had three local winners and one district winner in VFW contest.
- Middle school students participate in the MATHCOUNTS Competition held at the Citadel each year. In 2024, the COKSM team earned 5th place, with 3 individuals placing in the top 25%.
- The Junior Beta Club, a service club for 7th and 8th grade students maintaining a 95% average, is active with over 50 students participating. Each year, they compete at the state competition and have qualified for the National BETA Competition.
- Each year we have several students who are chosen to participate in the Honor Choir by the Southern Division of the American Choral Directors Association.
- COKSM offers four high school courses: Spanish 1, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, for which students can earn high school credits.
- Our school participates in the SCRIPPS Spelling Bee by offering a school Spelling Bee and Catholic Schools Spelling Bee. Many of our students have moved up to the regional bee.
- We have over 30 sports teams, including sports such as basketball, golf, tennis, archery, volleyball, and dance.
- In 2024, our 8th grade girls and boys basketball teams won the Parochial League Championship. The 8th grade girls also won the Trident League regular season.
- The Crusaderettes middle school dance team, has earned regional and national recognition since it's inception in 2015. The team most recently earned a National Championship in 2024.
- Eighth graders lead individual service projects, helping local agencies and learning important concepts such as service, leadership, public speaking, and self-awareness.
- Our students give several thousand dollars each year to local organizations chosen for our "We Give Wednesday" offering at our weekly school Mass.
