GRADES FIRST THROUGH FIVE

Christ Our King-Stella Maris School is a Catholic school steeped in tradition and faith based values.  Reflection is an important part of our daily lives as each day begins and ends with prayer. Students are taught compassion, respect and to care for others as Jesus cares for them.   Our graduates leave COKSM school with a full understanding that they have a responsibility to give back to the community.

Our school meets for morning assembly every Wednesday morning when we come together as a community to pray, to share news and to celebrate our successes.  Assembly is followed by our weekly school mass.

We are proud of our our Catholic identity and the academic curriculum.  We feel blessed that we have not only the ability to teach children about their faith, but we have the opportunity to guide each and every child to success.

The Christ Our King-Stella Maris elementary program includes first through fifth grades.  COKSM follows curriculum standards as prescribed by the Catholic Diocese of Charleston, South Carolina.  Areas of study are religion, math, science, social studies, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, Spanish, technology, library, art, music and physical education.  Sacramental preparation/commitment takes place in second grade.

Christ Our King-Stella Maris strives to teach the whole child.  Instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of all students.  Reading instruction is leveled based upon DRA scores and weekly support is provided for struggling readers by our “Reading Intervention” team.  In addition, academic support is offered to students who have been diagnosed with learning differences.

Not only does COKSM celebrate a challenging academic program, our school celebrates the many unique talents of all of our students.  These talents include the arts, music, drama, athletics, Lego Robotics, math competitions, spelling bees, geography bees, Beta Club, speech contests and more.  Our goal is to provide opportunities for children to experience success by using the gifts that God has bestowed upon them.
