President & Principal's Welcome

John ByrnesCharlotte Funston

Welcome to Christ Our King – Stella Maris Catholic School (COKSM)! We’re so glad you’ve taken the time to learn more about our vibrant Catholic school community here in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Since our founding in 1950, COKSM has been dedicated to serving the East Cooper Catholic community—specifically the parishes of Christ Our King, Stella Maris, St. Benedict, and Saint Clare of Assisi. Today, we proudly serve students from 4K through 8th grade under a President/Principal leadership model, introduced in 2012 to support our school’s continued growth and mission.

At the heart of all we do is our commitment to educating the whole child—academically, spiritually, socially, and physically—within a faith-filled, value-centered environment. Rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, we strive to instill in our students a deep sense of purpose and compassion, encouraging them to live lives of service, leadership, and discipleship.

We are proud to offer a rigorous academic program that integrates 21st-century skills, current technology, and innovative teaching practices. Our students are challenged to think critically, grow creatively, and lead confidently—whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, on stage, or in service to others.

Our core values—Faith in Our Children, Hope for Their Future, and Love for One Another—guide every decision we make. These values are not only displayed on our walls but lived out in our daily interactions, our curriculum, and our long-range strategic goals.

Yet, words and websites can only tell part of the story.

We invite you to visit COKSM and experience the spirit of our school for yourself. You’ll find joyful classrooms, committed educators, enthusiastic students, and a true sense of belonging. From student-driven clubs and fine arts programs to community outreach and competitive athletics, there is something meaningful for everyone here.

At Christ Our King – Stella Maris School, we stretch our limits to become all that God calls us to be, striving each day to Live, Love, and Learn like Christ.

It is our great privilege to be part of this special school community. We hope you’ll join us on this journey.

With warmest regards and many blessings,

John Byrnes, President
